The MAX220-MAX249 family of line drivers/receivers is intended for all EIA/TIA-232E and V.28/V.24 communications interfaces, particularly applications where ±12V is not available. These parts are especially useful in battery-powered systems, since their low-power shutdown mode reduces power dissipation to less than 5µW.

The RS232 Serial Adapter provides the interface between the PC's RS232 serial port and the target device's insystem debug/programming circuitry. The included 10-pin DEBUG ribbon cable connects the adapter to the target board and the target device's debug interface. The Serial Adapter supports both Silicon Laboratories JTAG and C2 debug interfaces. RS232 Serial Adapters can be powered from the target board, but they cannot provide power to the target board. Table 1 shows the pin definitions for the DEBUG ribbon cable connector.
